Being open 24hrs is fantastic. I can't imagine desperately needed to buy my protein supplements at 330 in the morning, but each to their own. I'm glad I am only here for a month, I couldn't use this gym any longer than that.

Cheap casual rates and lots of equipment. Has two lifting platforms with bumper plates, so Olympic lifts are possible - very nice. There are a LOT of photos of bodybuilders on the wall, and the place generally caters to the bodybuilding crowd. Based on the appearance of some members, I'm going to guess that drug tests are not required to join :)

Much better than the city location happy to pay $5 more for my casual visit because it doesn't stink like city gym!

Terrible climate control - today it is 25-30 degree outside, but inside is pushing 35. It's essentially unusable in the hot weather, especially when it fills with people late in the afternoon. I can't imagine how cold it gets in winter but from other reviews it seems as though you might even find some early morning frost.

Not enough weights - the typical clientele of the gym is a body builder. These guys are massive. As expected, they use a lot of the available plates to workout, meaning a serious lack of equipment left for others, especially when there is more than one "serious body builder" training there.

Poor range of equipment - for a gym this size, there are 8 leg press machines (each slightly different) but only two power cages. It's infuriating to not be able to use a cage even at the most quiet times. There are no open spaces for stretching, cooling, abs or body weight exercises either.

Tired old equipment - the machines and weights are in dire need of replacement. The wearing grips, slim cables and mismatched weights make it feel like everything came from Salvos.

Never organized properly - I'm not sure what the staff do besides chat to their favorite members, but not once have I ever seen the free weights or plates organized in an orderly way. Plates never get put back, and the weights under 10 kilos don't even have weight labels on them - leaving you to GUESS how heavy they are and whether they are the same.

World famous and huge gym, for serious body builders only. Lots of equipment and space, staffed 24 hours too. But a lot of it is ageing, and they lack enough weights for the machines. Hygiene is an issue too.

I thought $10 casual was a non obligatory come do a session and leave it at that.

No casual atmosphere - Dohertys plugs itself as a body building gym. The walls are plastered with 'inspirational' pictures of %2 bodyfat bronzed athletes flexing on stages. It's quite overwhelming and the members and staff seem to idolize these figures. It can be very intimidating to be there, surrounded by men 4x your size.

But most importantly, you will want to do a serious review of the gym, it's atmosphere and vibe, the other people who train there and the neighbors before you commit. FYI, you can pull out of direct debit anytime with only 1 months notice.

However - pushy overbearing staff that follow you arround while you're trying to train pestering you to sign up!

The one and only classic. It would seem the staff could be unfriendly, but I have found them always to be nice and pleasant. Full of muscle bound blokes that may offer a few leers at you. But well equiped gym and good boxing area that is fairly well maintained. Price is excellent too only $10 for casual!
